Sustainability Efforts
Bolander & Co – Agenda 2030
At Bolander & Co, we strive to contribute to a sustainable future. Our sustainability efforts encompass ecological, social, and economic sustainability on both large and small scales. We do what we can to create conditions for good sustainability for the company, employees, clients, suppliers, and the broader community. Our sustainability work is organized around the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as defined in Agenda 2030, focusing on the goals and sub-goals most relevant to our operations where we can make a real difference.
Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Our internal efforts to reduce the company’s direct environmental impact include actively working to decrease the use of consumables in office environments, making sustainable choices in rental and energy agreements, imposing environmental requirements on our suppliers, and minimizing emissions from business travel.
At Bolander & Co, we believe our most significant contribution to combating climate change is through dedicated and structured work with our clients’ damage prevention efforts. Many of our clients are property owners or operate businesses with high-value assets, and we see significant environmental benefits in preventing property damage. For example, an average water damage incident in a bathroom or kitchen results in approximately 300 kg of CO2 emissions, while a typical car accident causes 254 kg of CO2 emissions. We assist our clients in damage prevention through risk inspections, claims data analysis using damage indexes, and general preventive tips and advice.
We also collaborate with insurance companies and clients for circular claims handling, where damaged building materials, technical equipment, and vehicle spare parts are reused as much as possible, and the use of recycled materials is prioritized in restoration processes. Additionally, we follow and contribute to developments in sustainable construction within the real estate industry.
Sub-goal 13.1: Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related disasters
The insurance industry is already seeing clear effects of climate change, such as an increased number of natural disasters like heavy rainfall, storms, wildfires, and floods. For us and the industry as a whole, enabling economic stability in the face of these impacts is crucial to prevent devastating financial consequences for individuals, businesses, states, and municipalities.
At Bolander & Co, we help our clients identify the risks that climate change poses to their operations and ensure they have the insurance coverage needed when disaster strikes. Through this work, we help provide society with the financial resilience necessary to adapt to the new conditions brought by climate change.
In addition to securing insurance coverage for climate-related risks, we collaborate with clients to mitigate risks and reduce the consequences of such damages. We have started assisting clients with preventive measures, offering advice and guidelines for resilient buildings during both management and planning phases, including tools for flood risk mapping and creating routines and checklists for handling climate-related damages.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
Good health is a fundamental condition for individuals to reach their full potential and contribute to societal development, making it a central part of Bolander & Co’s social sustainability efforts. The company offers employees an annual wellness allowance and one wellness hour per week to promote health and well-being through physical activity. Bolander & Co also provides private health insurance for all employees, enabling quick access to medical care, early diagnosis, effective treatment, and rehabilitation. This insurance contributes to healthier employees who can return to work as quickly as possible after illness.
Bolander & Co is the main sponsor of Sirius Bandy’s “Hopeful Future” initiative, which works to give children and young people, particularly in disadvantaged areas, a safe and meaningful pastime focused on health and community through bandy. The values of Sirius Bandy emphasize joy and community, democracy and participation, inclusion, and fair play. We also support Uppsala Basket, an organization with an equal distribution of resources between men and women.
Additionally, we provide financial support to organizations such as BRIS (Children’s Rights in Society), the Children’s Fund at Uppsala University Hospital, and the Swedish Cancer Society.
Sub-goal 8.5: Full employment and decent work with equal pay for all
Bolander & Co is committed to being an equal, inclusive company that promotes fair rights in terms of work, employment, and other working conditions. Equal opportunities to operate, influence, and advance are provided to all employees, regardless of gender or background. The company’s principles are defined in its equality plan, and annual salary surveys are conducted to identify and counteract any disparities in pay or benefits between genders. Salaries are determined according to a set policy to ensure equality based on objective criteria.
Bolander & Co primarily offers permanent employment and allows employees to work remotely two days per week, providing flexibility and productivity. Systematic workplace health and safety measures are in place to address risks and prevent work-related issues such as stress or sedentary work.
